H1N1 influenza vaccine is now available. Although the second wave of H1N1 illness appears to be decreasing, there is still H1N1 flu activity in Minnesota. A third wave of illness is likely later this winter. If you are 10 years of age or under and need the second dose, you may receive it at one of the locations below.
Where do you get vaccinated?
1) Chisago County Public Health will be offering free H1N1 vaccinations to County residents.
Third Tuesday of each month from 9:00 am-11:00am at Chisago County Public Health-North Branch
First Wednesday of each month from 5:00-7:00 pm at Chisago County Public Health-North Branch
First Thursday of each month from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Fairview Lakes Medical Center-Family Practice in Wyoming, MN
2) Contact your healthcare provider. If your own provider does not currently have enough vaccine, keep checking back to find out when the vaccine will be available. Your provider may charge a small administration fee for the vaccination.
3) Find a Flu Clinic: Information about when and where to get vaccinated is available through the MDH flu clinic finder at www.mdhflu.com.
Students and staff are encouraged to continue practicing the prevention strategies below and we appreciate the help of parents and community members in reinforcing these prevention strategies.
• Wash hands frequently with soap and water. • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into your sleeve. • Stay home if you are sick. • Do not return to school or work until your fever is gone for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication (will be longer for preschool-age children). Note: Alcohol-based hand rubs may be used if soap and water are not available.
School office staff are asking parents a few more questions when parents report a child absent. If possible, parents should be ready to report the exact temperature of a child who has a fever. This information helps us monitor the flu levels within our district so we can provide accurate information to county and state health agencies and so we can take appropriate measures within our schools to minimize the impact of flu on learning. Since there is a strong correlation between time spent learning and student achievement we hope to keep school open and functioning in a normal fashion. We appreciate your help!
